That's all she wrote folks. Hope you've enjoyed the ride. Doe of Deadwood originally ran on DA from December 2017 until April 2019. It was fun taking a trip down memory lane.

DoD is actually the third comic I completed. If you'd like to see some of my other works, I have two comics currently running(one is about to finish though) and I've begun uploading my second oldest onto CF. Check em out if you like doofy animal comics!

Aaaaaaaaahhoasijdsldkf what a conclusion, oh my goodness.

Thank you Songdog, this was a wonderfully emotive work to stroll through. My heart hurts. I really wondered how it was going to end for Rig, and aaa man.

Thank you.

That was a beautiful story, I'm glad I found it! I love animal that couldn't be exactly told with humans, but deal with similar themes and emotions that we have to go through (in this case, loneliness and fear of mortality especially). And it sure was a tragic tale that sticks to you for a while!

Thank you! I'm a big fan of xenofiction (animal stories where they don't act like people) and so that's what I write!

Yes, exactly! (I meant to write "animal stories" too, whoops) I think you did a great job at giving different species a different way to see the world, those kinds of setups fascinate me the most! I'll have to check out your other comics too. n_n

This was an awesome read, thanks for sharing.

I started reading this after seeing it a bunch on the main page. The daily uploads definitely caught my attention 'cause I was drawn to the doe's spooky, haunting red eyes, and I finally just needed to check it out for myself.

The spooky, haunting ending did not disappoint! Woo!

Fantastic read! Let's see if I understood: Deadwood chose Rig to be his familiar not for her capacity to bring prey to it (we saw that when Rig encountered him he was already leafing and that her "investment" in her only eventually managed to barely get it back to that state) but rather for her fear-of-death-based determination... and her womb. Its plan for her always had been to use her to reproduce itself (after all, dejection of loneliness is one of the main topics of the comic) by abusing the way her body would feed a developing fetus to feed its seed. That's why Deadwood always pretended to be interested in her love life and encouraged/allowed Fen to get closer.

I have to wonder if Second always knew that the infection was incurable and set Rig on the only possible path to defeat it, which was becoming a demon.

Thank you! And that is absolutely one way you can read it. I've tried to stay more hands off with interpretations of the characters here than I did with previous works. So whether deadwood was always planning for this end in mind, or whether they genuinely cared for Rig and only went on this path when Rig betrayed them, is for the reader to decide. That's the very question raised in the story: what was deadwood originally called, a savior or a demon? The only difference between the two is perspective.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts ^^ It always makes me happy to find new people finding this story for the first time.

One thing of it could be that her crow friend second could have been the demon who cursed her with night sickness in order to get her to need a cure. then accompanied her on the journey with the intention of getting rid of deadwood as the tree had mentioned the demon of her mountain wasn't strong enough to kill anything. Just a guess
